I had that with some Conti 4000's I got last winter. I never did get
them on even with packing tape rim stripping. I bought the wheels /
tires into an LBS where much cursing ensued. Eventually, and many tubes
later, they got them on using a large machine.
I've got > 1,000 miles on them w/o a flat. I figure if they flat and are
tough to change out, I'll have to switch tires because I can't see this
as a reasonable fix in the field. Of course, they may stretch out some.
I don't really know.

I had a pair of Conti Attack/Force tires that I struggled with the
back, gave up, and had the LBS install.
When I flatted 400 miles later, I had no trouble replacing the tube
and the tire went back on the rim, with little trouble.
Later, I found out about the following tools.
For the first install, I think the Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack is the
answer.

Scroll down, to see.
It's a little big to carry though. For that, if using a 700x23, then
the Easy Hand fits the need.

The few times that I have flatted, I think the adrenaline of the
situation, makes getting that tire on, just a little easier.
How do you like the Conti 4000s, otherwise?
