I prefer the real life reviews and opinions of AMB posters.

Singletrack seems to be the best of the magazines available in
the UK for journalistic integrity and lack of bias. They've a site at
http://www.singletrackworld.com (Site not a great reflection of the
magazine and probably mainly there for the forums.)
Most seem to be more advertising than review.

If you want reviews check out www.mtbr.com. This is peer reviews of full bikes and componentry. be warned that you have to apply a very large dose of salt, as the range of reviews can cover significant periods of time and therefore relate to last years model not this years. this has the result that faults which may have been dealt with are repeatedly identified or new faults not identified. There are also a lot of reviews from people who have bought something for XC (eg a carbon fibre seatpost), jumped off a mountain with it and crashed, and then posted a review [censored] about how [censored] that piece of kit is despite using it for something it clearly is not designed for. There are also reviews from people who have clearly installed something incorrectly and then wondered why it doesn't work properly (howling disk brakes is a great example). Oh and you get the kids who have gone out and bought a piece of kit that day and are so happy that they go and write reviews about how amazing it is despite having never ridden on it
The reviews can be useful though!! I tend to use sites such as MTBR and then sound off against forums that I know to be reliable. (www.mtbbritain.co.uk has a very good forum with some knowledageble people there as does www.bikeforums.com and www.cyclingforums.com and obv this forum is quite useful.

I like Western Flyer lately. They mostly just write about riding and not
so much gear. It's also put together by a couple of friends, so I'm
definitely biased.

Like almost every industry, most major mags limit reviews to the folks who
advertise in them. The ones who advertise in them spend big bucks to have
their models (both bike and sponsored riders) in your face. So you see them
more, read their reviews, and swallow their advertising budget when you
purchase their product.
Kind of a vicious "cycle" if you get my drift.

Not a single one of them in the USA.

See above reply. They all pander to their advertisers, some just hide
it slightly better than others.
