hi all some years back i purchased a second hand dawes racing style cycle to commute to work as far as i can recall frame was 21 inch, cannot remember what size the wheels were but tyres were very skinny affairs with virtually no tread.
some time later purchased a APPOLLO mountain style cycle from halfords 21 inch frame 21 gears, more chunky tires,certainly better brakes, about £70
but found in practise the older bike was (easier to ride) with the mountain style cycle regardless of what gear , my legs seemed to be doing more revolutions as regards the main driving pedal cog , so legs tended to ache a bit more.
looking at the older cycle and the m/bike the main driving gear/cog is a smaller diameter on m/bike ,plus the tyres are fatter , making cycling harder work.
i thought i would post this and get some feedback if i am correct in my assumption,
i have not cycled for some 4 years now but would like to get a bit more exercise any suggestions for modest price or second hand cycle that fits the bill.
