Have you tried a traditional leather saddle? Yes I know they're hard and the first time you get on
one it seems murderously uncomfortable, but they really do shape themselves to fit you personally.

I have Brooks Profesionals on my road bike and on my hill bike; personally I wouldn't have anything

Has anybody ventured that a firm-enough saddle creates it's own "split in the middle"?

Seems to me like if the sit bones are on something firm enough the soft tissue between them is
automatically kept from pressing on the saddle.

OTOH, if there's enough padding on the saddle for the sit bones to sink in, having that cut-away
channel probably helps prevent pressure between the sit bones.

Expensive, but more comfortable than just about anything else out there, firm enough not to require
a cutout and light enough to fit a racing bike.

Second this - I ride on a Brooks B-17. Once broken in, it is soft where you are hard, and hard where
you are soft, so everything is padded nicely. Very comfortable on long rides, not the lightest
weight saddle available though.

Second this - I ride on a Brooks B-17. Once broken in, it is soft where you are hard, and hard
where you are soft, so everything is padded nicely. Very comfortable on long rides, not the
lightest weight saddle available though.

count me in as another vote for brooks. the best thing i can say about mine is that it lets me
forget the saddle, which shows it's doing its' job. i didn't have the break-in problems, mine was
comfortable from day one. purchased it from bill at www.wallbike.com. he offers a six month return
if you find the saddle uncomfortable.i believe he said the return rate is something like 3%. if you
still want the split and light weight, get a koobi. i have one of those on the tandem, which
doesn't see the mileage that my road bike does. if i couldn't get a brooks, that would be my second
choice. smokey
