He doesn't front onto the street, you need to go down a short
passageway between the clotes shop on ther corner and the hedge. IME
he is skilled /and/ cheap. I would ask him what he thinks

On hard soled racing shoes, I've had success glueing on rubber blocks
at the toe and heels just to silence the cleats and give a bit more
grip while walking over hard floors (marble foyer in an office building
I used to work in). I cut the pieces from an old car fan-belt, glued
them on with Araldite - it worked well.

I'm sure you could do somthing similar adding a thinner patch each side
of the cleat, just to lift the the area at the ball of your foot and
the cleat a bit more. It'd also want to be thin and carefully placed
to ensure that you could still click in OK.

A cobbler or heel bar would have rubber stock, glue etc. in hand, but
the last time I got a pair of regular shoes resoled (glueing and rubber
sole on over the original worn leather sole, it was touch and go
whether it was worth getting done or getting a new pair of shoes.
