Sail Designer says: I'm gonna fail - I just know it....
OK, Here I go: No pass or fail. Just a break from that other "quiz" to have a little fun.

cute, young female on your team. Do you a) graciously bail also, claiming that your wife
expects you home, b) tell interested but jealous passers-by that yes, this really is your
daughter, or c) get a room?
a) I'm a wimp, and happily wedded at that. Unless she really IS my daughter (I have two)
We also rode a few times alone, probably because she felt safe with me, and was tired of all these
hounds hitting on her. Neat gal, who wouldn't get entangled at all with anybody since she knew she
was leaving for good the end of the summer.
But I honestly tried to avoid the one-on-one deal as a courtesy to my truly lovely wife, whom some
of you have met. Do they get any better than her?

Quoted message said:2. You struggle to the top of a hill on your old, fully rigid singlespeed, and the posing
peacocks already there are looking down their collective snooty noses at you. How soon
before you subtly let on that your bike is a singlespeed: A) 10 seconds before you stop, B)
30 seconds after you stop, or C) Immediately?
IN the last instance, (as this happens all the time), a guy up top who came up the easy way, asked
me if there was much traffic coming up. I told him about my biff, and that I came up pretty fast, as
I had to on the SS, standing most of the way. Then he took a closer look at the Gray Lady, showed
proper obeisance, and we chatted about how crazy this fendy trad is.
Quoted message said:
D) Never - let them figure it out for themselves later, and be much more impressed...
Quoted message said:3. You see a barney cutting a switchback, damaging the trail. Do you
A) yell at him, B) throw something into his spokes, or C) fly JD up from Fruita to open a can on
him?
I always yell, but I won't hurt anybody. I rode with the Freak down a huge narrow, twisty draw a few
years back, and a guy cut a trail way out in front of him. He let out a yell and hit the nitrous
oxide, truly leaving me eating dust and wondering what happened. ???
Quoted message said:
A) JD takes up two seats and I can't afford that.
Quoted message said:4. After the ride, you realize that you've only got $4 in brew-bucks between the whole group,
but you see a gaggle of G-Roadies leaving a table with more than half a pitcher left behind.
Do you A) ignore them for fear of what you might catch drinking after them, B) grab the
pitcher, C) make loud obnoxious comments about their cute, shaved legs, or D) both B & C?
Something similar recently, but some kind but limp roadies offered me and my kids two half pizzas
when they left and we took their seats. Which was a good thing, considering I really only had $4 for
dinner after a ride with the youngstermigos.
Quoted message said:
E) Drink what's left in my water-bottle - I don't do alcohol <shock, horror...>
Quoted message said:5. You fall in behind a cute gal you've never seen before on a long
climb. Do you A) continue to follow her closely, breathing heavily until blinded by pepper
spray, B) engage her in conversation until she's convinced you deserve pepper spray
anyway, C) try to pass her and cause her to crash, then rush to her aid copping a feel,
or D) pull off and let her gain distance so she doesn't get worried about A through C
occurring.
This happens a lot, as we have a high percentage of good, female riders, and a couple of nationally
recognized female teams that live and train here. So usually, I'll follow until I can pass.
Appreciating the view for a minute or two is no crime. If I can't pass immediately, I'll pull over
and give her some distance. It's shameful molestation to just hang on her rear wheel if she doesn't
know who I am. I think that's one of the reasons our female member always wore big loose clothes to
keep from being the object of some drooling fool's desire.

E) Tell her that if she doesn't like her butt being admired, she should get out of the way and let
me through. Ya might get slapped on the way, but she'll thank you for it eventually. ;-)
I did have a funny experience of coming down a technical, narrow section as a group of gals were
hiking up. They had nowhere to go, but the last one turned sideways, and I accidently (I swear)
got a good feel of her hinder side as she turned to face sideways up the trail, it was that
narrow. At least I didn't hook her with my bar and throw us both into a creek, or give her a good
pinch or slap.

Quoted message said:6. You've got serious work, family and other commitments all stacked
up on the day you'd casually mentioned weeks ago of taking your team out of town for an epic
ride. You figure hey, everybody's bailing, nobody's confirming, and just to be polite you leave
messages that you're not going. Then you get called at midnight before the big day with lots of
screaming and whining, demanding why you're letting everybody down. Do you A) leave that next
morning at 6am, B) 7am, or
C) try to reason with your female member that suits are frowned on at the hot springs on the way
back from the ride?
So what did YOU do, Paladin? Sounds like there was some experience involved with this one ;-)
On this one, I wrote it up. Some of the best riding and most fun I've ever had, on my all-time
favorite trail.

It was an absolute blast and a perfect end to a really outrageously good summer of riding. We left
at 6 am, got back at 5pm and did a loop north of Sun Valley that really put Idaho on the mtnbiking
map about 8yrs ago. We passed on the hot springs, mostly due to time, which was a good thing, as we
just barely missed a huge wreck that closed our road down for 4hrs.
So there you have it, Steve. The truth, the half-truth, and nothing but a truce.
