    I'm considering buying one of the following hardtails: Any advice or recommandations will be
    appreciated.....

    - Gary Fischer Big Sur Disc

    - Gary Fischer Tassajara (Disc)

    - GT Avalanche 0.0 Disc

    - Focus Black forest

    - Focus Raven Expert

    I've got a 98 GT Avalanche and it has been an exceptional bike with a good mix of LX/ XT components to say nothing of the high quality 6060 Aluminium frame. I have heard that GT isn't as good since they went bust. Sorry I can't be of more help I will watch this thread

    I'm happy w/ my GT Zaskat LE so I'd advise you to buy a GT!

    It still is the stiffest frame I've ridden so far...

    Yeah, I got it too. I'm that old. I remember hanging out with a pal down the street watching
    Midnight Special and they played a video of Focus playing "Hocus Pocus." Let's see, I think that was
    about 1971 or so.

    Anybody remember the Midnight Special? One of the highlights of 70's culture, IMO. I remember seeing
    KISS's TV debut on that show. They looked glam (like Bowie's Ziggy character) - hadn't gotten into
    the Japanese monster movie costumes yet. I was only about 10, and wasn't sure what I thought of guys
    in tights....
