  1. My favourite at the moment is ZoneFresh at Windsor.

(Second is Feast on Fruit at Colmslie.)

*Magnificant* cheese cabinet........ bit light on with the choices of
4lt Olive Oils ( I had to go Colivatta(?) this time.) but the rest of
    it............ *YUM*!!

Although, they didn't have any bunches of Italian Parsley.

Got some Reggiano, some Mushroom and Truffle oil pasta sauce, some
German(?) Goulash mixes, some Kamals Kitchen Madras Coconut(?) sauce,
Maldon Sea Salt............ and I could have got sooooo much more!!
Oh, and 4lt of Colivatta O/O for $28.00.

    Hi Peter!
I knew you were in Brisbane, but your stomping grounds seem really
    close to mine!

Sam Mangano & Darren Roose are the two inspired guys who head Zone
    Fresh.
Their first store - only a fruit & veg store, with the odd smattering
of imported groceries, was on the corner of Ashgrove Avenue &
    Waterworks Road at The Gap.
When the owner of the site planned redevelopment, they moved their
operation out to The Gap (where I've lived for the last 17 odd years)
and opened up The Gap Family Markets - which included a full
continental deli, gourmet butchery, F&V as well as select grocery
    lines.
They opened ZF WIndsor October 02 and were really laying themselves on
the line financially - they had no idea whether our Gap concept store
would be embraced anywhere else. Silly boys!! I knew it would be the
    roaring success it is today!
So much so, they now have store number three in the pipeline - think
it's going to be out Chapel Hill/Kenmore way.

BTW, check out some of the new additions at the butchery - they have a
new chef Franz Ehlmann - doing some lovely 'ready to cook' lines (tried
his individual serves of lamb backstrap, fetta, sundried tomatoes,
spinach & wrapped in puff pastry - baked for about 40 minutes it was
    beautiful!)

Sam is dead centre (fourth from left) http://i1.tinypic.com/xcm2ja.jpg
    just before the store opened.
Darren is far right... (taken at Christmas)
    http://i1.tinypic.com/xcm8uq.jpg

Long may these two provide their excellent services to communities far
    & wide!!!

    I get around :-)
Before my best mate went and got a job in a winery down in Coonawarra,
she and I used to go on 'deli crawls' :-)

Yeah, I perused the meat section while I was there, but due to limited
space in the esky, (and two chocker freezers at home) I decided to leave
    it till another day.

But I tried the chilli dolmades and wasn't fussed on them. But my
partner likes them. She likes the sweet chilli flavour, I wanted
    something with some *OOMPH*!!

    I'll second that motion!!

(Although I was a bit peeved that they were out of Continental parsley
    and Buffalo Mozzarella!!)

If you like relishes/chutneys, they stock a fairly good range of the
Aussie made Beerenburg varieties - husband's current favourites are the
Hot Tomato Chutney (especially good with home made corned beef and a
killer accompaniment to a good hot curry) and the Green Tomato Pickle
which he like with a fully mat. cheese.
The Beerenburg lines are lovely - especially the conserves & marinades.

Better to have run out than be hoarding 'old stock' as some do!!
Could always ring and pre-order it for a particular day .... they're
very accommodating like that. Plus, if there is a product you really
want them to stock, they will do their best to do so.

    cheers & happy deli-ing,

I started buying Beerenberg about 7-8 years ago :-)

    From Coles, no less.

Awhile back ('03-'04??) I spent some time in Canberra (forced, of
course.... who, but the countries most severely retarded, would want to
live *there*??!!). Skipping around between the wineries and the backwood
liqour barns (and picking up some *fantastic* bargains) I happened to
    visit the local Coles supermarket.

I tried some stuff that wasn't available up here. Red Rock Deli chips,
    and Kangaroo fillets/roasts/sausages etc.

Loved them that much I brought the (empty) packets back to my local
Coles at Cannon Hill and fronted them and asked for them to be stocked
and told them that they would go off quicker than a brides nightie.

Within 3 weeks, Coles Cannon Hill was the first supermarket in Brisbane
to stock Red Rock chip and Kangaroo meat.

Now you can buy the stuff at petrol stations!!! :-)

    cheers & happy deli-ing,

My dream is to own/run my own deli/coffee/wine bar :-)

It beats the [censored] out of shooting people!!

I'd like to get old, contented, and fat, surrounded by all those
    magnificant smells and flavours.

but I tend to use the 'Red Deli' and 'Clayfield

Hmmm, thanks for that, looks like it's changed a fair bit since I was
there last. Will have to go and have a squiz.

Feast on Fruit at Morningside is also a very good deli/fruit and vege
    shop.

    Excellent cheese cabinet.
