1.5 g trans fat for the ultimo burrito is hardly "chock-full" and they have plenty of
healthier options than that.

I had some a couple weeks ago for the first time and I thought it was gross.

And Wendy's didn't create them, they bought them. Shortly before that
I had corresponded with BF's president on the issue of maybe buying a
chunk of the company; then BF got itself an investment banker and began
the process of IPO-ing; then Wendy's walked in and bought the entire
thing.

BajaFresh was an excellent concept with better than adequate
implementation and some of the healthiest "fast" food there is, in a
unique niche (outside maybe San Diego and Phoenix). And when they cook
it right, it's by far some of the best tasting.

Since Wendy's got it, though, they've streamlined a few things and made
it seem a little more corporate, and added some branding tie-ins, so I
don't think I'd be interested in having it now. And it competes with
Chipotle, which McDonald's created when they realized BajaFresh had
invented a new market segment.

IMO... it is the best fast Mexican food in the NJ (USA) area...they have
the best Guacamole around!!! ... better than I can make myself... the only
gripe I can come up with is that everything is made to order so it is not
really fast food ( you wait while they make it ) no problem unless you only
have a half hour for lunch

As for healthy ... well, it is fast food ... if you really want healthy
your best bet is packing your own ( brown bag it )

any thoughts ??

Their menu sounds like something I'd like, but I won't give it a try until
I'm on Weight Watchers maintenance program. It would definitely interfere
with my weight loss program.

Their menu sounds like something I'd like, but I won't give it a try until
I'm on Weight Watchers maintenance program. It would definitely interfere
with my weight loss program.

I live in the Phoenix area also. I first started going to BF when I
lived in Las Vegas and there was one near work. Used to go there with
coworkers at least once a week for lunch.

It was better before Wendy's bought the chain. I used to like their fish
tacos better than Rubio's (another west coast chain), but haven't eaten
there in over two years.

Nope. I have Crohn's Disease and can't really eat much in the way of
fast food. And anything related to Mexican really really bothers my gut.

And I still haven't tried it, although I plan to. It looks similar to a

Sort of the same here in Arizona. I've never been to a Baja Fresh,
although thought I might try it sometime. However, there are many good
local Mexican restaurants who owners/operators are native Mexicans and
serve more authentic food than the chains. One such place has an
interesting twist, serving Mexican/Asian fusion cuisine. Two owners, one
from Mexico, the the other from Thailand.

I've been to a local (Stoneham, MA) Baja Fresh several times. Most of
the items on the menu are average to below average. Luckily, for me I guess,
there is at least one exception: their fish tacos.

I'd always heard about fish tacos being The Thing (tm) out in California,
and I always thought the idea was pretty odd (with the benefit of not
knowing what they were). So, when Baja Fresh opened here, and seeing
fish tacos on the menu, I gave them a try. They are fantastic (and I
hope on some future trip to CA that I can find some even better).

Since then, I've tried fish tacos at several other local places (I should
note that the Boston area is not really known for good Mexican places) and
found that I like Baja Fresh the best. Nobody else around here comes close,
as far as I'm concerned.

They are quite simple...a small piece of fried fish in corn tortillas, served
with shredded cabbage, a small bit of fresh salsa (tomatoe, onion and cilantro
as I recall), and a small spritz of a lime-based sauce. Most other places seem
to use a modified tartar sauce, but I like the citrusy aspect of the Baja
Fresh sauce.

I used to go to the one in Beverly Hills. It filled a need for a CLEAN
Mexican fast food restaurant (as opposed to the La Salsa down the
street). I wasn't crazy about the food: portions were small, though
it all looked reasonably healthy. And it was one of those little
mismanaged hellholes that had seemingly a hundred employees but took
half an hour to ring up your order and put a taco in a bag.

I never tried them but saw a TV show featuring "Wahoo's" A small place in
Huntington Beach, CA. They have a few other locations but I don't know if
it's a franchise. The owner took the coverage to Ensenada, Mexico where
he showed off the fish market where he found the recipe that he
replicated to serve the surfers on the beach in CA. Again, never tried
them and the Baja Fresh is not heart healthy by any stretch of the
imagination.

Lucky surfers! Catch some waves, have a few fish tacos then catch more
waves. Gimme back 30 years and I'm there, dude! 😉
