Shimergo gearing setup

I don't know if there's any such thing as standard cables, really.

It's important that the brake outers aren't too large otherwise they can
jam in the levers (no ferules are used on brake cables in new style
Ergos). Nipples of inners need to be Campag compatible. I recommend
Campag cables, though I know they're expensive. New Ergos normally come
with a full set of cables and stops.

Standard Campag brake outer cables are 4.9 to 5mm.

On second thoughts, the problem is of ferules jamming in the levers (after
people have not realised ferules are unnecessary). It'll be easy enough
to pull out a tight-fitting cable or make a too-big cable fit by shaving.
So just about any outer cables can be used, but the inners must be
Campag-compatible. Campag outers happen to be good quality anyway, and
are pre-lubricated.

Note: gear cables do need ferules.

Try R.B.T as well for advice on mix and match. I got some useful
practical tips on replacing my 9 speed STIs with Ergos and new rear der
which was still much cheaper than new STIs. Cassette spacing is not
exact but I have had no trouble shifting and no trouble setting it up

I've recently fitted 10 speed ergo levers to my bike using the original
shimano 9 speed rear mech and 3 chainring front mech.

This works perfectly.
