  1. Just need some advice.....we are (Australia) heading into winter and its dark when i used to ride in the morning and its dark when i used to ride in the evening not to mention raining and being cold .... but no snow !!!

He's my drama.... I have some great loops from one hour to three hours that involve country roads with no shoulders no lights and crazy dudes rushing to get somewhere. After a few near misses and there were was one very near i decided to do the morning loop of choice on my Mountain bike hence can ride off the actual road on the rough part out of the way of traffic.

So my question is will training on the Mountain bike be just as good as the road bike miles till daylight and sunshine returns..... is 90%MHR the same effort on both bikes ( no power meter on MTB)? Now I know the MTB is slower but will I continue to improve....

Yes. And yes, provided the training, diet & recovery are all properly balanced.

off-road training is much more stressful for the whole body. I can't maintain the same training volume training excusively off-road as compared to road only training.

  4. I regularly train on the mtb (in summer to get away from the tourists that are on the roads) and in winter to reduce flats from wet roads. The mtb has been a great tool for the extra loading as long as both bikes are set up similar you should get a equal befit from both mtb and road.
