Paving slabs? It's a joke now, but it began as a serious suggestion.

It's a joke which, coming from a middle aged woman who wears support
garments herself, is in very poor taste; a bit like a Jewish commedian
making jokes about darkies. It's a joke at the expense of people who are
already embarrassed about their own body image. It's cruel, mean and
despicable, and it really puzzles me that Helen doesn't see this. But on
every other topic, she is a positive and valuable contributor. So she
isn't in my killfile. I do, however, wish she wouldn't do it - unless
she's prepared to burn her bras.

Sorry Simon but I totally diagree with your comments above as I think they
are entirely ridiculously OTT. You really are having a total sense of humour
loss AND the slab joke is *rarely* started by me these days and has this has
been the case for a long time now, so perhaps you should be casting your
comments towards everyone who refers to 'slabs' or the PSF in any thread..
rather than insinuating that I have some sort of racist views of anyone who
wears bibs. Last time I looked, people weren't born wearing bibshorts,
unlike the colour of their skin...

Oh, and just how do you *know* I wear support garments? For the group
record, Simon has never inspected me for any. And if we women got upset
everytime someone made a joke about our appearance, we'd be in a permanent
    state of bad temper :-)

    Well thanks for that, anyway.

Life would be incredibly dull if we agreed with everything about each other.

    Helen,

I must say I seem to remember quite a few post s a while back regarding the purchase of ladies sporting attire (seem to remember Steph getting involved as well), so Simon may well have got he impression from there:-). However I also seem to recall your comment that they didn't make them big enough, even though you had been getting smaler with all the slimming :-) By they way how's that going these days?

Personally I think anyone who just wears b*bsh*rts deserves everything they get. Personally I tend to put a jersey on as well (on the very rare occaisions I wears bibs), so unless you're really looking you can't tell :-)

I thought bibshorts were connected with racing rather than race.

    Alas I am a pathetic failure! :-)

The slimming was going remarkably well until finances were used up getting
the wheels of Nathan's TT bike. That meant cutting back on other stuff and
the regular visits to WW stopped. Sadly for me, I *need* the weekly support
group, and currently I haven't got it. Weak-willed old me, combined with not
being on the bike as much as I want and need to be. Que sera! No-one to
blame but me - I know what I require to be able to get the support I need -
weight loss is as much mental as eating wise.

    I have a *large* body image :-)

    Cheers, helen s

Bad luck, but shirley the priorities are all wrong? If you've spent all the money on bike kit (a good thing), then you can't afford food, hence you'll lose weight :-) You don't need support if there's no food in the house :-)

To quote someone far funnier than me (Jo Brand I believe) 'I must be annorexic, everytime I look in the mirror I see a fat person'. And now the usual dicaliemr, this was not meant to offend anyone who knows an annorexic, is, has been or ever will be an annorexic.

I didn't take your posts as a personal attack :-)

It's not really a question of being weak-willed. The cycle of weight
loss followed by regain is extremely hard to break out of. It's one of
the reasons I generally don't like the idea of diet programs. WW is a
little different as it has a maintenance program once your goal weight
is acheived to break out of the diet syndrome. It's meant to be
sustainable, and it works as long as you stay on the program. The group
support is an essential part of the program.

Get back down there immediately. (Sell Nathan for medical experiments.)
And ride those bloody bikes and trikes a bit more.

    Me too.

I'm needing some slabs for the floor of the new greenhouse.
Should I post a picture of me in bib-shorts?

    ..d

We'll have a few slabs heading for the skip in a few weeks when we get
our extension done but I think even Worf will find them a bit heavy.

Hmm.. Worf will cope with loads over 100kg (though the hitch is only
rated to 80.. my excuse is that I only weigh 80 [1])
How many and what size? It may be worth a trip to Edi with the car

    I think he's been inspired :-D

    Cheers, helen s

My employer buys a lot from CSC - there's a competition running all next
week at the office to ride a VR trainer on a Cervelo bike, top times each
day on a predefined course go into a hat to win a CSC VIP day at the TdF
    finish at Paris <drool>

Now, to find out what days the good cyclists at work are taking part :-) (so
that I can enter on a different day).
