  1. In august, I have the opportunity to race a stage race. It's 4 days. Stage one, a hill climb time trial (7km), stage two a 80km road race, stage three a criterium (40mins), and stage four a flat time trial (16.6km).

How do I prepare for a stage race versus a one day race? Should I try to do a few blocks of 3 or 4 days of hard back to back training? Should I try to mimick the race as best I can?

Also what strategy is best for a stage race like this, should I focus on a few key stages (i.e., my strength areas) to do my best and hold on in the others? Or should I spread my energy out?

Realistically, can you contend for GC? Unlikely otherwise you would not be asking. Can you contend in any single stage? If so concentrate on that. If not, just go and have a crack. Its a learning expriance.

    Which race? Which grade?

  3. Yesterday, I glanced over the race website and it seems I made a mistake, it's actually not a stage race. It's 4 separate events.

So I guess my best bet is to prepare for the event I am likely to do well in. For the other events, I will do what I can and enjoy.

Cat 5. (Canada) It's the first year of the race.

  4. What does this mean:

"~90% of the course is on roads with no bike lanes, ~5% is on roads with a bike lane and ~5% is on a paved bike path"

WTF you have to race on the bike path? and in the bike lane? what kind of event is this?

Hill climb sound interesting but there are no stats for it, no map no % grade.

Crit and TT look like fun.

  5. Yeah, I'm not sure. I wonder how a road race on a bike path will work...

I plan to do the hill climb, it should be fun.
