1. One of the major rivals to the legendary Miguel Indurain during the 1990's, Tony Rominger won multiple Vuelta's, 2 Giro's, three Tours of Lombardia, GP Merckx,
Pais Vasco, Paris-Nice, Tour of Romandie, Tour duSuisse, - the list goes on.

He was a fine cyclist and a very successful cyclist in the 1990's.

Last I heard, he'd gone in to management.

Has anyone got an update as to what Rominger is currently doing?

2. He is Hondo's manager.... having some troubles get a ProTour team for him and he is also the manager of Sinkerwitz and struck the deal with T-Mobile prior to the Tour last year which angered QuickStep so much.... Patrick Levene (spelling?) issued a statement prior to the Tour that any rider that had Rominger as a manager would not receive assistance from QuickStep..... sounds like the Rominger as a shark on the transfer circuit......

blah, well can't blame Sinkewitz for wanting to leave that Boonen-centric team 😄.

He is also manager of Andreas Klöden.

Yeah but Levefre (right spelling?) has problems with a lot of people, it's T-Mobile who offers such a lot of money that riders mostly say yes (like Linus Gerdemann, Sinkewitz etc.), Klöden also stayed at T-Mobile as a domestik because of his fine salary...

6. Thanks fellas.

Thanks for that update WBT : you know it doesn't surprise me that Rominger is a shark.
I recall during the 1990's that he was being paid (relative to his status and the going rate) a massive salary.
In fact, the rumour was that he was earning almost as much as BigMig.
Tony was always about the bucks.

CH/DS/WBT : Mobile and their budget : $18m per annum : a massive budget by team standards.
Your view on this?

7. Let's go alltogether...

The final E isn't pronounced

PS ...and never mind the accents 🙄

Although there aren't my initials there I' ll let my comment: Inflation 😄

9. A big budget team does cause problems for other teams..... but cycling is a business..... Wasn't it Mapei that was a huge big budget team that bought up many riders during the 90's? Having a big budget does not always give you the best rider, but it does give you the best second tier riders that can support a rider either in a Classic or a Tour. And if your main rider does not produce, there is another one to fill in the shoes.... I do not want to start a DC vs QS thread but the fact that when DC lost Hincapie it had it's chances dimished greatly in the one day rides and small tours that were left. . If QS lost Boonen it still had some firepower left in the 2 Italian riders. And in order to get those 3 Classic winning riders it takes money.
With the international flavor of cycling and the need for all the sponsor money the UCI can get, I do not believe there is a way to control it. I may be wrong about this, but it seems that Mapie was the main reason that teams had to limit the number of riders on a team.......
But it keeps cycling interesting even though it is not on a even playing field.

Yes but the good thing is it's not helping them like some football (for the US readers: soccer) teams: Bayern Munich in Germany or Chelsea in the UK. T-Mobile didn't win a grand tour since 1997. A lot of young riders left or had to leave: Stefan Schumacher (now at Gerolsteiner, he did very well in Paris-Nice untill he got ill), David Kopp (als at Gerolsteiner, second in Gent-Wevelgem this year) are 2 of the riders that complained about the atmosphere in the team. Kopp said it's not a team at all, TM are a few guys who are wearing the same shirt...

I take your point CH : there does seem to be a sense of complacency with riders such as Kloden for example.
