Navigating skills? Ever have one in your garage with the overhead door
wide open and the stupid bird slams itself against the closed part of
an open window two feet from the door for about an hour before it finds
its way out? Bird brain, words mean things.

Actually he just kind of went "boink" and fell. No blood, no visible
injury. I do feel bad about hitting him but I never saw it coming.

Was the "boink" even across the spokes that he/she hit?

It's nice when their last earthly act is to help you check spoke

Mating season is nuts. Or maybe your bird was carrying eggs. I suspect (but
haven't heard one way or the other) that "eggnant" birds are lesser aerialists.
Many years ago a robin swooped into the highway and tried to pull out of the
dive right in front of my car (frantic, supersonic wing-flapping!). It stalled
and sank a foot or two just before the top edge of my car's hood impacted it. I
drove the rest of the way with egg smeared over the length of the hood and
feathers fluttering on one of the wipers. Bird was dead at the scene.
