  1. A few days ago, I read an article on Energy Healing in the March/April 2003 issue of Body &
Soul. I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to it except for the fact that one of my
    beloved cats, a 1
1/2 year old Siamese mix named Gus, was just diagnosed with lymphoma. The magazine article mentioned
pet healings. Has anyone out there been able to heal a pet with something as serious as cancer?

I had never heard of Reiki or energy healing (are these the same) but it does sound fascinating. Is
there a good book someone can recommend for an absolute beginner? Can anyone learn to do this?

And what about long distant healings? I would take my dear sweet little Gus to someone if I thought
it would help, but he is so sick it's hard to even make short trips to the vet. Can anyone out there
(especially someone who loves animals) send some healing energy his way? Is this possible? He's
going through the traditional treatments - chemo, but I hope there is something more powerful. It's
hard to accept the death of any pet, but I feel like his life has just begun. I am heartbroken and
just want to see him running through the house again like the playful little fellow he was until two
weeks ago ... and this horrible evil cancer gone from his body forever.

    Thanks,

    Sheri (in Western North Carolina)

  3. Reiki on the way for Gus (and for Sheri, too, if wanted).

First off, the following is my personal opinion, and no one is responsible for my fallacies but me.
    That said....

Reiki is a type of Energy Healing, but not all Energy Healing is Reiki. Sort of like, an apple is a
type of fruit, but not all fruit are apples.

Not sure that there are any books that I would particularly recommend for a beginner, but several
people that participate in this newsgroup have excellent sites. You might start with angelreiki.nu
and sharereiki.org. There are lots of different styles of Reiki, just like there are lots of
different kinds of apples. I don't think any one style is better or worse than any other, or more or
less effective than any other (IMHO). But after reading the caveats on the above two websites I
mentioned, you will be better armed to pick a style that resonates with you, if this is something
that you wish to pursue. And yes, anyone can learn to do this.

One thing that you should know up front about Reiki (or any other modality, for that matter) is that
no one can promise a specific outcome. We just do Reiki and accept what happens. That may sound like
a cop out to you, but it actually goes much deeper than that and relates to a philosophy, a way of
life, that helps you to cope with stress and anger and worry. And, of course, there will be some
Reiki people that will tell you that the philosophy business is hogwash, and it's all about the
energy. Once you've collected a few people's opinions, think of it as a buffet and take the ones you
like and leave the rest. ;-)

    Love and Light,

    Garry

P.S. I'm in Central NC myself.

  9. Hey there Sheri,

    Quoted message said:

Has anyone out there been able to heal a pet with something as serious as

cancer? Unfortunately not heal a pet, but I did treat my own pet when cancer was diagnosed. I have 4
Guinea Pigs and I offer my Guinea Pigs will a Reiki treatment once a week. When one of them is ill,
I will offer Reiki more often. Of course, only when they are willing to accept. If they seem not
interested, then it is their own choice not to receive Reiki that week.

Recently I lost a Guinea Pig to cancer. His name was Poocky. When it was diagnosed, it was already
too late, it was spread through the whole body. As of the moment that I knew that he had cancer I
started treating Poocky on a daily basis, if only to keep the pain away. Poocky died in my arms,
during a treatment ........... but he had not been in any pain, not for a second.

I didn't give Reiki to Poocky so that he would heal (in one miraculous way or the other). I offered
Reiki to Poocky for the greater good. And this greater good could be literally anything: complete
healing, no (or reduced) pain, or .......maybe that he would die BEFORE any pain would get to him.

Of course I can understand that you very much would like Gus to be healed/cured from cancer. That's
what I wanted for Poocky too. At first, that is. Then I realized that I am not the one who decides
what will happen. That's why I offered Poocky Reiki "for the greater good" (whatever that turned
    out to be).

And I WAS heartbroken when he died. And I DID cry buckets full of tears when he was gone. But after
a few days I started feeling thankful. I was so thankful that he had chosen ME to care for him
(just as in babies, animals also pick their "mommy & daddy" and not the otherway around). ME, of
all those millions of people that he could choose from. And I felt thankful, knowing that Poocky
knew that I had done everything I could do for him. There is NO radiation therapy or chemo therapy
for animals that small. So when the vet diagnosed him with cancer, that was it. End of discussion.
    No treatment possible.

Until his final breath he was a happy and playful Guinea Pig. Even the final Reiki treatment was a
joy for Poocky. He snuggled into my arms and fell asleep. Falling asleep what something that he
did most of the times when I treated him, so this was very normal. He held his head up one more
time, looking at me as if he wanted to say: "Thank you for everything." and then he fell into
    eternal sleep.

Reiki is something that anyone can learn to do. But you cannot learn it by just reading a book on
this topic. You need attunements. Those attunements are done by a Reiki Master. And this Reiki
Master is also the person that can answer your questions.
