I started lifting back in October 2005. I started out with light weight,
lots of reps (usually 3-4 sets of 25). After several weeks of that I
transitioned into heavy weight with fewer reps per set (i.e 15,12,10).
Typical exercises are squats, hip sled, hamstring curls, lat pulldowns, and
various abs exercises. I usually do 3 weight sessions per week.
The improvement in my running, biking and swimming has been amazing. My
question is that with racing season approaching I assume that I need to cut
back on the lifting but how? Do I go back to less weight, more reps or do I
keep the heaver weight and reduce the number of reps and/or sets?
I'm a 36 year old male in decent shape (run about a 45 minute 10k). I've
gone a few weeks before with reduced lifting beause of work travel. I
definately notice a loss of strength next time I hit the weight room. so I
really don't want to stop lifting...just reduce.
Thanks,
WH
