Brooks Saddle ?

If it's the right basic shape it should be comfy out of the box,
but just get better and should be a great choice. If it's the

It's the shape, not the leather thickness, that will really change
things. Compare the 17 with the Pro for shape, and if it's
basically the same I'd not bother.

Hmm, try it and if you don't like it, I'll relieve you of a useless
piece of junk for free! I've had a few and after about 10 hours there's
a definite improvement. Two weeks commuting and hour a day. Oh, and I
dont find them that comfortable out of the box.

What's wrong with the Terry ?

With your past experience, its quite possible that you are not a Brooks
person. So could be spending more on useless saddles.

I've had my B17 for 8 years and I think it's getting more comfortable.

If you don't get on with any Brooks after all, you could try a Selle
Italia FLX Trans Am, which is similar to the original standard Terry
Liberator but more supportive, I find.

more comfortable then I'm in for blissful rides for years. Opinions vary
though. Some folk don't get on with B17s at all. I appear to be one of the
lucky cyclists who get on wioth the saddles straight away.

I don't think about the saddle discomfort now - it just isn't an issue
any more.

I have my own suspicion that people who really don't get on with Brooks
saddles "out of the box" have not taken the instructions seriously. I
got a Brooks a few years ago and it was literally a pain in the [censored]
until a friend of mine who swears by them took a look at it and said it
was rock hard compared to his. Mine was new old stock, and had probably
dried out - or maybe they're supplied like that. Applying a good dose of
proofide to the underside of the saddle softened it enough to become
comfortable and flexible, and its been fine since.

I am one who has not managed to get on with a B17 -- though normally I am
tolerant of saddles. Previously I have never understood what the fuss is
about (except with one horrendous mattress job on a hire bike).

I find the nose of the B17 does very nasty things to my nether regions. It
is almost as if the saddle is too shot for my bum.

Moving the saddle back & forth, up & down and tilting it made little
difference. The change was from agony to mere discomfort.

I have not tried stretching the saddle by tightening the nose nut -- partly
because I have no suitable spanner but mainly because the bloody thing is
such torture I took it off my Galaxy.
