Silicone rubber does not succumb to chlorine at anywhere near the rate that
true rubber doesItems made of it, can last much longer - but silicone rubber
is much more notch-sensitive. If you get a nick in your goggle straps or
cap, it is much more likely to tear. This is usually more of an issue when
children wear those items - they are often less careful, and some have even
been seen to chew goggle straps.

Silicone rubber is less elastic, so proper fitting of goggles (and to a
lesser extent caps) is more important. Silicone rubber has a lower
surface-energy than latex, so it feels more "slippery"; for caps, if they do
not fit well, this can also be a disadvantage.
