I do NOT use AOL, but I have 3 friends who do, and when they send me
attachments, I get different results from each one of them. So, as far as
I'm concerned, the answer to your question is yes, there IS something wrong
with AOL. But, try and convince its devotees of that. Tell your son to get
himself a real internet provider.

Having said this, I'll admit one valid possibility for the problem, which
could exist with other providers: Some have limits on the size of each
e-mail message. I don't know if AOL does that. But, if they do, and your
pictures are quite large (file size), this could be a problem. However, one
of you should get an error message if this were the case. Knowing AOL, if
message size was the problem, they'd send notification of this to your son's
pediatrician's plumber, instead of your son.

Probably. Whenever AOL is involed, it's either the user or the
service.

Most likely it is AOhelL I send images to a friend that has it and thee is
always a problem. Even simple things like a web link don't work at times.

I would have thought you raised your son better than to use AOL 🙂

Do they have a Help file? Have you looked there? How about online help
for subscribers? Those would be appropriate places to look and ask
about a solution.

My friend Sarah has AoHell (she owns a huge chunk of stock which she first
bought when it was first offered) and I can't fwd or send her a group of
pics without zipping them up first. My suggestion is to either have your
friend get into the support files or email the support group on AOL for
help. I know, it really sucks but that's the way it is.

I have the same problem when I receive forwarded emails from AOL victims.
They appear as attachments. I open them, and they contain a blank page with
yet another attachment - sometimes 3-4 of these. It's like peeling an
artichoke.

Yep!

That pretty much describes it... my BIL has AOL and you have to open one
attachment right after another. He never reads who the message was from
either so if you send him a joke he forwards it back to you... bleh!

Also have an acquaintance who is a dedicated AOL user and when I mention
that perhaps she might like to try another provider she simply tells me that
"AOL IS THE BEST"... I don't think so <g>

Oh boy, Chris and Doug, I have the same problem when I get messages
from one AOL user. It must take me about six attachments to get to the
dumb joke.

My son has had AOL since the early days. I despise it. I have no idea
why he won't switch, other than being familiar with the wacky way it
works.
I finished up sending the photos in three different batches but I'm
expecting to hear that he still received just one. He's away right now
so I don't know the outcome.

into one zip file. The main purpose of winzip is to shrink files, but it

don't really need their cutesy little environment or sorry service. I a
betting you can find a better deal also.

don't really need their cutesy little environment or sorry service. I a
betting you can find a better deal also.

And, some normal internet providers want you to install their software "to
help you connect to the web". Nonsense. Don't EVER do that.

Any of those free email services is 100% better than using AOL.
I can't reccomend fastmail.fm enough. Excellent web interface.
They have a free version, and then a $15 lifetiume membership
which is even better (for me, though I could live with the free
version). Much better than Yahoo or Hotmail.

My email address will die with me. I can switch ISP's without
having to worry about my email address changing.

Jay, I don't have AOL - my son does. You couldn't pay me to switch. He has
had it for years, from the time his kids were pre-teens. I suppose that's
why he subscribed but why he still keeps it is beyond me.

To Doug and Reg - thanks for the advice. I do have Winzip and will try
doing it that way. That sounds as though it will work.
