I think that you have to go to GPS setup which you will find is set as
simulator and alter the settings back to whaever you normally use for
your GPS. This works for me, but if anyone knows a better way I'd be
    gald to know about it.

No silly ...... nothing to do with the GPS.
Memory map has a feature where there is a simulation .... an icon
will travel your route that you have loaded onto the map. It crawls in
realtime ... my walking pace .. ha ha ... and unlike me, I could not
stop it or get rid of it. Even shutting down the program and then
    reopening had no effect.
Anyway ......... it must have got fed up as this morning it had
    disappeared :-)

I've not seen this moving icon - must be similar to the breadcrumb trail
you get with Ozi. Good fun to see where you've been>

You tend to get it by being over curious and right clicking on a track
and selecting GPS demo. At this point you pay for your curiousity, by
having to work out how to stop the crawling demo which has no obvious
    off buttton ;(

Some of us arer unfortunately all to well aware of this because our
curiousity exceeds our memory and we have made the same silly mistake
on more than one occasion and forgotten how to stop it each time 😉
