I bought it with the stuff from America. I should have thought about it when I ordered. I should have ordered the special ones for derailers. Wipperman Connex etc. It only cost a couple of bucks, so I am not concerned.

Hey! For all I know it may work! But I want to be sure before I break the chain and install it.

Keep it for a single speed, or a bmx. 🙂

Yeah. That was my immediate thought. But it is definitely described as "8 speed" link😕 This might just refer to chain size......

I have gone back to the place where I bought it and asked. We shall see.

hmmm..You are talking about the "keyhole" type?

When I was "shopping" I could not find a "magic link" that suited Shimano.

There was Campo, and SRAM, and Wipperman made them to suit their chains. Would one of these fit a Shim chain of the same size? I was concerned about pin size etc. I am sure companies are pretty precious about making sure you are locked into their setup.

This one was a Wipperman to suit Shimano, and it looks exactly like the "master link" I had on my bike 30 years ago, with an elongated circlip covering both pins on one side. It will definitely need to go in the right direction. What I was worried about is the fact that now it has to fit in with lifting over sprocket teeth, and that might either stop changes or even open the chain.

YEP pretty much looks like a keyhole escution,
I used them with shimano and other name brand,chains 7 and 8 spead,MTB, and they worked fine.
I havent used one on my shimano 9 speed chain yet,and i can see your concerns i find the 9 spead requires more maintenance than the 7spds,i have one as a spare in case my chain breaks while riding,its manufactured my KMC.
But it's more for an emergacy.
The link you have,sounds similar to one a mate of mine used on his 7 speed and it did cause,chain suck and noise ,only to discover he'd put it on the wrong way,turning it around didn't seem much of an improvment and he switched to the kind i use with success. Iv'e seen them in use for garage door opener chains and kids bikes,a much wider chain ,WITH SINGLE SPROKETS.

hmmm...OK. So even if it _claims_ to work, it may cause trouble, and George is right.....use it on the kid's bike! <G>

SO. Is there a keyhole - style (ferget that escut...ecstu...stuff ! <G>😉 link that fits Shimano? What brand did you use for 7/8 speed? As I said, I was worried that Campagnolo etc would only make them to fit their own chain.

If it;s just the way it is then so be it. But I have had a couple of sites lately do funny things to my system.
