Hi Everyone,
I have an old Univega carbon fiber road bike with Shimano components. I've had it tuned up at the bike shop over the years but these components are very old and I've had performance problems with them.
Forgive me for not knowing the proper terms, but I am most interested in changing the 'crankset' - the part with teeth on the assembly where you pedal.
I have two rows of teeth on the crankset. I want one with three rows -- my roomate's road bike has this. I'm looking online at rei.com and they're also talking about chainrings. Maybe I can just buy one? I want gearing so I can climb hills better.
I also want gearing so I can go fast on the downhills -- my chain has fallen off a few times when I'm pedaling hard. Screws are always getting loose on the chainring.
I'm afraid to buy anything because I don't know what works with what. I don't know what's important, teeth, etc. Since I have ultegra parts could I get this set?
How difficult installing something like this? I think part of the fun of this project would be working on the bike and learning how to do it.
Appreciate your advice and guideance.
