  1. Whenever I wake up in the middle of the night to urinate, wich seems to always be around 2:30am or 3am
everynight (once a night) after lying back down my heart beat is noticably stronger / forcefull (palpitation?)
to the point its difficult to fall asleep, my heartrate isnt really high during this time (around 70-75BPM) but i'm
wondering whats causing this..it can take up to 45 minutes for it to 'calm down' ,If I just happen to get up for
a glass of water etc. these symptoms dont occur when lying back down so it seems related to urinating ,im 30 ,male
    not overwieght, Any ideas appreciated.

Could be a dysrhythmia from increased vagal tone (vagally mediated atrial fibrillation would be one example).

Waking up with a fast heartbeat can be a "classic" sign of sleep apnea.
(This is also dangerous for stroke, & MI risk, as BP goes up with apnea --
as the heart tries to pump FASTER to make up for the oxygen intake
    deficit.)

I learned this at the sleep clinic.

I get up 2-3 times each night and have noticed that my heart is
usually doing 96/100 bpm when I get back in bed, especially between
11pm and 2pm. I have a pacemaker so I don't know what this is all
about and no explanation was offered when I mentioned it at the
cardiology clinic last week. Seems like I will always have problems
with the rate and rhythm. Diana

  4. In the 1980's I saw many patients on monitors with severe sleep apnea. Many
were admitted for surgery. During periods of apnea they would brady down and
    have long pauses.
