My 24 Hour Fitness pool has closed for the week while they change it over to
a salt-water system. Can anybody give me some thoughts on this type of pool
as far as how it affects the swimmers?

We have one salt-water pool here in town, and I regularly swim in the
ocean. IMHO, swimmming in salt-water versus chlorine/bromine and
freshwater means
- you will be more buoyant,
- you can handle and most likely will prefer the water a bit cooler
- your equipment will last longer
I don't know what sanitizing they do in such a pool situation though.

Just curious... why does saltwater change your temperature tolerance and
preference?

you worry more about the kacky taste in your throat, which distracts from
the temp...
j/k.

No, the salt-water makes your throat feel BETTER, you can gargle while
swimming <grin>
I don't know why I have more tolerance for colder salt-water versus
fresh, just do. Can't hardly cross a chlorinatred pool less than 74 -
degrees F, but easily swim a couple miles in open ocean 58 degree water.
Change to salt water is to save on expense of chlorination isn't it?
Electrolysis system turns the salt water into fresh water and by products
(one of which is Chlorine) of the NACL.

Oh, I'm sure the reason is economics, not swimmer comfort. But, how does
this process keep the pool disinfected?
The salt in the water is broken down into it's chemical elements. One of
those elements is Chlorine.

Not if it is as windy in Houston as it is in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
(Do golfers go out in the wind? I know I've seen them do it in the snow.)
