Well, I FINALLY saw an episode after all this time.... and my choice to continue was kicked off. All of them were terrible on the 7 minute demo and I actually LIKED the way the two "girls" worked together. They shouldn't have put a rangetop between them, but everything except the visual worked for me. Obviously, I didn't agree with the panel on the rest of the criticisms. I thought they worked together very well and I was interested. In fact, I think the two of them could make a great show.... I absolutely LOVED Yvette's intimate knowledge of what we usually think of as "exotic" food (stuff I can find easily, but don't know how to cook - like plantains) and it could be balanced by that white chick's traditional stuff.
As another aside, I failed to figure out why food tv is always highlighting the fat guy in their "next star" commercials... he's ok, but I liked what Yvette had to offer.
<sigh> Life goes on, but I'm not going to be seeking out that show, because it isn't in tune with *my* taste or interests.

Wow. We've watched all the episodes and frankly think Yvette could have been taken off the show long before this past episode. I didn't think she displayed any sort of knowledge, intimate or otherwise, of her unusual ingredients. Heck, she held them up and said "peel them and grate them" but didn't actually do anything herself or explain what they are or anything.
We did get a lot of laughs regarding the "sofrito" notes under her name each time - "makes her own sofrito", nickname is "sofrito" etc. Hilarious.

Wasn't she also the one that declined to filet a fish because she had never done it before? I don't think I ever heard her explain what her sofrito was, and she certainly should have. Her idea was that her cooking style/background was different and that means she needed to know that she had to explain ingredients as she went along. It'll be interesting to see which of the men wins. The women never stood a chance. Janet

Oh, well... as a first time viewer - I liked the idea of her cooking style and thought the two chicks made a good team in spite of not liking each other. As I said before, my opinion was polar opposite of the judges. Obviously, that show isn't my cup o' tea and won't be appointment TV for me.

I have a feeling her getting ousted had to do with things you don't necessarily see on camera. Like she didn't seem to be taking direction really well. They told her to make 2 dishes, she only made one...she's supposed to be doing a cooking demo, and she's holding up things and says, "You do this, you do that" and there's no demo involved. The others made mistakes and took the criticism and learned from it -- she didn't seem to be getting the hang of what they wanted from her.

My wife was listening to the radio yesterday, and they were interviewing the guy named Guy. Turns out he's a local. He did look familiar, and I wonder if I saw him doing a cooking demo some years ago at the local county fair.
