  1. My mother used to make a baked pudding which I can not copy

She buttered slices of bread on one side and coated the buttered side with
sugar. The slices were used to line a pudding dish sides. The slices
apples with a sprinking of sugar were used to fill the dish. The top was
covered with another layer of the buttered/sugared slices and the whole
    thing baked in the oven

It was served with fresh farm cream

I would be grateful if anyone has a recipe or suggestions - the quantities
    and cooking
times have eluded me so far, as has the treatment of the pie dish to allow
the toffee coating to come free !

The name of this recipe of your mom's is "Apple Charlotte." There are
special "Charlotte" pans you can buy - I have two, but have never made
    it. Go figure ;-)

Wow, that's wild. I've had a dessert called Chocolate Charlotte, but
it's nothing like this. It's got a ring of ladyfingers around the
outside and a chocolate mousse and whipped cream filling. I Kinda
assumed that was a classic charlotte, if there is any such thing.

Also on this page was a link for "chemical apple pie" - wierd name for
the old Ritz Cracker Mock Apple Pie. I remember eating that as a kid,
but I have no idea why - Mom made lots of apple pie adn we went apple
picking every year, so it's not for want of apples. Maybe just for fun,
to trick us. Wish I'd thought of that recipe BEFORE April Fool's Day,
coulda had some fun with it!
