  1. I've been making homemade soft drinks using simple syrup. I use about a cup
of syrup for 1 liter of drink. I was wondering what other sweeteners are
available. I've used commercial soda mixes that involve mixing a 1.4 oz
product to 1 liter of carbonated water. Any ideas what type of super
concentrated sweetener could be used to replace 16 oz of simple syrup?

Year ago we tried making homemade root beer. We ended up with minature
bombs. Now we don't drink soda other than club soda and that has no
sugar in it. To answer your question, look for liquid sucrose. It is
clear and quite thick. Corn syrup should work as well since many of the
colas use that. The amber corn syrup likely has more flavour than the
clear. As far as how much to use, I have no idea but maybe if you
google with one of the suggestions you might find something.

If you can find it, Cane syrup is an excellent sweetener.
If you're looking for a no-calorie option, use Splenda.

Commercial soda uses high fructose corn syrup which is far sweeter than that you
would find in the grocery store (Karo and the like).

Could you by this corn syrup through a supplier? I buy pectin and
special pectin in bulk so maybe this corn syrup could be bought that way?
