  1. Michael,

In another thread you wrote that you had Barb Schaller's recipe for Maid-
Rites. Could you pass that on?

Tonight we're having some real Maid-Rites that a friend had shipped in from
Iowa, but I'd like to surprise her with a recipe.

    Thanks!

Here ya' go. I saved her entire post as she's got other tips in the post
    along with the recipe:

    From the esteemed Barb Schaller:

Here's from the Top Secret Recipes site - from smething resembling a
    requests section, I think:
"There is a little restaurant in Greenville, Ohio [Darke County] called
"Maid Rites." They have been in business FOREVER! My mother used to go
there as young girl and in turn told us kids about it, and even took us
there as a treat. My husband and I still go there to eat whenever we
are in Greenville. They make a loose meat sandwich that people talk
about for days after having one...or two or three. We have taken
out-of-town friends there and turned them on to the unique taste of
these sandwiches. I can still remember Mother preparing us for the
various wads of gum stuck to the outside of the building left there by
people waiting at the drive-thru windows. All of these years later
people STILL deposit their gum on the exterior walls of the restaurant!
It's such a tradition now. Several years ago there was a major fire in
the restaurant and we all held our collective breaths to see if they
would rebuil/remodel/reopen and they did!!! Many years ago Mother was
going through some old recipes and ran across one that she said her
mother gave her for Maid Rite sandwiches. I have made them and with
some time and the right amount of "pinches" of spices you can replicate
the famous Maid Rite loose meat sandwiches. There are probably other
little restaurants across the country that boast their recipe is the
original...Here is the one we have:

    Maid Rites Clone
    1 1/2 pounds ground beef
    2 teaspoons granulated sugar
    3-4 teaspoons prepared mustard
    4 Tablespoons beer
    To Taste:
    red pepper
    black pepper
    garlic salt
    salt

Brown & drain the hamburger. Stir in the other ingredients and simmer.
Spices are added "to taste." The Maid Rite serves their sandwiches with a
choice of cheese, mustard and chopped fresh onion. Bet ya' can't eat just
    one!"

lol! I probably shouldn't tell you about this, but back in the 1950s there
was a hard-boiled egg diet. Each of your three meals of the day was
identical, and you weren't supposed to stay on it longer than a week. The
    meal consisted of:

    3 hard-boiled eggs
    salt and pepper, to taste
    6 saltines
    6 ounces V-8 Juice
8 ounces hot milk (as hot as you could tolerate it)

No other liquids were to be consumed during the meal, although you could
drink unlimited amounts of non-caloric beverages throughout the day.

The meal was to be consumed with 1/2 hour. You were *guaranteed* to lose
10 pounds in 1 week. It worked!

Not too healthy...63 eggs in a week. :-(

This would explain my profuse weight loss

    lol

well, you know, I don't feel depraved of food, iiigs are soo easy to
fix, I did make gravy from the bacon grease (6pc's of bacon) and of
course toast. I love toast (i didn't use butter)

I also bought a big barrell of oats, they will be my next fling.

I think oatmeal strips plaque from blood vessel walls. I just know it
gives me a herrific headache for several days when I first start eating
    it. Without fail.
so, I got a bottle of tylenol, I also remember eating lots of oatmeal
gave me energy, makes me feel like stripping bark off of trees. this
and good hot sex. with a woman. lol. but I can't have none till I see a
wedding band on my finger. that's the price for peace of mind.

I'd rather want what I don't have than have something I don't want and
    can't get rid of.
    lol
