My girlfriend just gave me a wok she bought at Target. It seems pretty much like the cheap ones I've seen at Asian markets, except it has wooden covered handles, which are nice. The handles are loose, however, are are attached by a couple of small rivets that don't appears to have been fastened tightly.
Just wondering if loose handles are typical among woks, or if I should go through the hassle of exchanging it. I don't mind the loose handles, unless it's a prelude to the handle falling off one day.

Loose rivets are dangerous when they are supposed to be securing handles in hot cookware. Do yourself a favour and either get a hammer and a sturdy metal surface to hammer them down tight, or drill then out and replace them with stainless nuts and bolts.

I don't think wooden handles are appropriate for any cookware, especially not for woks.

My wok (Atlas brand, I think) doesn't have loose handles and the non-stick woks I just priced at K-Mart didn't either. I think it's a defect. You might be able to tighten the handles yourself with a screwdriver. But be careful. I got a pasta pot with a loose top handle that my husband overtightened and broke, so you can get things too tight on cookware.
Sounds like typical overpriced junk made in China. Landfills in North America and elsewhere are full of this cheap, shoddy merchandise. Although I don't see how anyone can make a defective wok, the malfunctioning handles are a portend of things to come. My advise. take it back and get a better wok made elsewhere.
