Yes a shamless plea for assistance. This will be the 29th Annual Horsetooth Half Marathon. We are
have to use the same alternative course that we used last year sinc since a large portion of the old
course remains closed while construction continues onn the dams. Our registrations so far are way
down only about 350 so far. In recent years we have had between 800 and 900 runners. We have planned
for that number of runners again this year. The race is this Saturday April 19.
For those of you who do not know this race it is run on the West side of Fort Collins starting and
finishing near the CSU Hughes Stadium. You can sign up online at active.com. Preregistration is $20
and $18 for additional family members. Race day will be $25. We have made a real effort to keep a
quality event while keeping cost down.
With a little luck next year the 30th running of the race will be held and we will be able to return
to the traditional course including the beloved (hated?) DAM HILL. The race happening next year will
depend on our not taking too big a hit this year. Traditionally this event has been the major fund
rasing event enabling the Fort Collins Running Club to continue operating. We are a 503c non-profit
devoted to promoting running with about 130 individual or family memberships. We loan out a lot of
our race equipment to other non-profit groups in the area and help support them in other ways when
they host races.
IF you need a good half marathon training run or are ready to race one please conside coming and
joining us this Saturday. With your assistance we may be able to at least reach the break even point
for the race.
I almost forgot to mention there is also a three person relay but no race day registrations are
allowed for the relay.
Thank you,
Tom Schipper Member at Large Fort Collins Running Club
