  1. I caved into all the propaganda that expensive shoes make a difference
.. they dont. shin splints worse than ever. im going back to buying ten
    dollar shoes at zellers.

  2. I think that the sweet spot for shoes is somewhere between the $150
dollar range and a ten dollar pair at Zellers (whatever that is). This
has been my experience at least.

    Good Luck,
    James

    Like I said, "asswipe".

    Correction, I mean "[censored]".

  5. It's about proper running form and style. If you follow the work of
Nicholas Romanov and his POSE Technique or you use Danny Dreyer's
ChiRunning, you can run barefoot or in racing flats.

The reason being is that you land on the surface of the earth and don't
clomp with your body driving your joints and body through the earth's
    surface.

The small quick steps teach you to land on the surface. The vertical
    lift is minimized

Google "gontang" and "running form" and you can read some of my
thoughts and ideas that parallel the work of Dreyer and Romanov, Gordon
Pirie, and Hal Higdeon's track coaches.

this has less to do with the cost of the shoe than how appropriate the
shoe is for YOU. how did you choose this shoe? did you get a
knowledgable runner/salesperson to look at your foot type and your
gait? if not, then your purchase was a shot in the dark, and those
Asics simply may be wrong for you.

your running form has much to do with shin splints, too. really hard
running surfaces (sidewalks, roads) and a heavy slamming of the feet
against them can create discomfort in joints and shins. a shorter,
quicker stride will reduce the latter. switch to paths, whether paved
or dirt or grass. roads are not as bad as sidewalks.

whatever you do, don't get those 10 dollar Zellers shoes. those are NOT
running shoes. they're probably good for little more than light
cross-training, without the proper support, cushioning and stability
you need for the movements specific to running.

remember, you get what you pay for. ten bucks won't get you much.

    best of luck,

    Cam

  7. Do not forget some of those African guys are still competing at world level
bare foot - no shoes no cost. IMO all these Hi Tech shoes
encourage/compensate for bad running form. Take your shoes off and do some
running on soft surfaces to allow your body to learn how nature intended you
    to run.

Then try counseling. Why are you always in a hurry?

  11. Unfortunately 50% of the time I change brand of shoes,
they new ones dont work for me properly, and I have to
try a third brand. That seems to be one the hazards of
running gear I have to live with.

I've been buying running shoes for running for 29 years.
I observe that a model is discontinued or significantly changed
on the average in 3-5 years, so this requires looking for a new brand.
I also had to change once for an injury problem.

I'm frugal too, but learned to distinguish the cheap athletic shoe
    imitations
from the one that work. The fakes with be made out of single piece
    soles
or uppers. These either dont protect ones joints well or wear out
    quickly
and list at $40 or less.
