My name is Jared Swanson and I am at the University of Minnesota where I am doing research on disordered eating in female cross-country/distance runners.
Just out of interest, why only women? Men get eating disorders too.

Perhaps not in numbers sufficient (and even less volunteers) for getting anything significant out of the study?
Could be but you'll never find out if you don't ask. I've just been reading an autobiography of a local Scottish runner whose bulimia and anorexia was misdiagnosed for years because "boys don't get anorexia".
Sorry I haven't gotten back on this sooner, but we are only doing women in this study because there are many more women out there who struggle with eating disorders especially when they are involved in sports where weight is of concern such as distance running, gymnastics, and figure skating. Steve is absolutely right, the numbers just aren't there for men, only about 5-10% of people with eating disorders are men. Also, there could be many other different factors that lead to eating disorders in men than for women.
