  1. I am building up a light tourer, and I will be putting a 11-32 deore cassette on an older (circa 2001 or 2002) 9 speed ultegra hub. I see on Sheldon Browns webpage that if i do not have a "c" freehub that i need to place a 1 mm spacer behind the cassette. Have any of you experienced this? How likely is it that I do or do not have a "c" freehub?

    Thanks

  2. I have an old Ultegra hub (thread on the outside) and have tried a few different 8 speed cassettes, yes, with one (an old Deore HG?? 11-28) it would not tighten.

A 1mm spacer can be scrounged from your LBS, they come with 10 speed cassettes.

    I have had a new HG30 11-32 (8) on it, without a spacer. 🙂 Just give it a try.

No just the shim. Many LBS chuck them in the bin.
