They left out the holes to safety-wire the discs in place, though I
guess you could just lace the retainer to the spokes in three or four
places across the back.

(For every loony idea, there is usually at least one additional loon

shortcomings are publicized.)

What psi concrete would I need for a tandem ?

Anything over 2500 ought to be plenty, but for a tandem, the important
thing is the rebar structure. For a roadie, ordinary light mesh will
do, but on a tandem, it needs the steel. (I suppose you might be able
to get away with just a compression band around the disc if you used
6000, but tensioning it might be a challenge.)

Pah. if they'd made the "hub discs" into a working brake disc, I'd have
been impressed. Just think - no need for wear indicators - when your

Oh, I don't know that that would change any "liability position".

It's a bad design. Buyers' wheels will soon fall apart if torque is
applied. The corporation will replace some of these at little cost to
it, and owners of the rest can shrug their shoulders. "Whaddya expect,
it was just a cheap X-mart bike."
