Has anybody had more trouble with the new design BB bearings creaking more on XC bikes than the old ones?
How do you try and keep dirt and grime out, or how do you get it out? How often do you take out your BB and clean them or replace them? I don't know much about the design and what it involves. To my knowledge, they seem to be cartridge type bearings that are just replaced once they are worn. Is this correct? My new bikes uses the Race Face Evolve X-Type.
[font=Comic Sans MS]Don’t get me started on BB'S MY BB STARTED CREAKING, SHIMANO hollowtech octolink, i took it in for a check-up and was told the locknut had come loose, a little while after I began to pick up play in the bb so i had to replace it, being a specialised bb hollowtech, splined octolink, there is no option but replace it with the same make, type size, And I found the length to be longer than most and the fact that the shaft was offset, well 4 months later I’m still sourcing a BB, apparently the supplier has ordered one and it should be here in a weeks time.[/font]

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate that. I was wondering if it was just me. Yeah I'm going to be more careful with my new bike. But that design really annoys me...
Yup, my FSA's used to squeak. Improperly installed(was not completely tight). Had it fixed and is good now. They are very sensitive and you need to keep them happy(correctly installed, clean...etc)

Ditto on the squeaky hollow tech here. I have the mega-exo and it sounds like an old rocking chair on the front porch at my grandmother's house.
How do you guys suggest tightening this type of bottom bracket without over tightening it? Do you use a torque wrench or just by feel?
