French swimmer, was a freshman (although some sites also have him listed as a sophomore) at Auburn
University this year, broke the SEC record in the 100y free leading off the 400 free relay, also won
the 50 free and 100 fly at SECs, won the 50 free at NCAAs in 19.31, and had the fastest split of the
field in the 400y free relay (41.47). Was a 23.0/50 point freestyler before going
22.5/49 low at French Nationals this spring. Also swims the 100m butterfly in 53+. Should he swim
well in his individual events I'll be interested to see whether he returns to swim in the NCAA
or elects to go pro.

France was 7th after 300m .... holy [censored] indeed .... Thorpe had a 0.94 second head start on Bousquet
going into the final leg. You know, Ian Thorpe, the anchor on the 2000 Olympic champs and the WR
holding 4X100 relay team.

I know nothing about this swimmer - didn't see his name in the Euro 2002 finals. He had the 9th
fastest LCM 100m free so far this year .... 49.27 ... if that was his PB his 47.02 anchor leg is ...
like ... wow ...

Press reports said the Frenchman's anchor leg was the 2nd fastest ever .... 2nd fastest! Anyone know
what the fastest was?

That's what I meant - if they're anchor legs are any indication it's likely Frederick could swim the
100 as fast as Popov split on the relay. How many times have we been able to say that? About
anybody? Ever?

Bousquet did 47.03. I think Hoogenband may have done 47.02

If you added 7 tenths to Bousquet's time it'd still be under Hoogies world record. I think Hoggie's
fastet ever split is around 47.0, and Thorpe may have done a 47.2 once. It'll be interesting to see
if Bousquet can transfer this form into the individual 100m.

Bousquet did 47.03. I think Hoogenband may have done 47.02

Of Course! Thanks for the correction and info. Looks like the 4X100 free relay (men) was helluva
race ... 7 teams swam under 3:17.00; I don't think there has been more than two relay teams under
that time in one race before.

He's received outstanding coaching there. Best coached team in the nation right now. While watching
his great swims at NCAA's in Austin last March I was wondering "where did this freshman come from;
I've never heard of him." Then I stood behind his mother at the snack bar (the parents of many
swimmers on the large teams wear a badge with their kid's name and picture) and I immediately

It's always interesting to see how foreign swimmers do when they show up and get a taste of what can
be a very different swimming culture in the US. Some of them love the team atmosphere and thrive
(Martina Moracova's time at SMU comes to mind) and take their swimming to the next level, others can
never wrap their head around the idea of getting stuck swimming the 200 fly to pick up points and
head out before too long.
