  1. hi rr's,

looks like all my stocked pairs of NB 830s are slowly getting worn down. and they don't sell them
anymore. has anyone tried the new NB 831s? i'd be very happy about some info & feedback, in
particular how similar they are to the 830s. thing is, i probably won't have a chance to actually
try them on since i haven't found either the 830s or the 831s here in germany, but if they're
similar enough to the 830's, i'll just take the chance and order a pair online.

    thanks, nina

I wondered the same when I couldn't get the 804 anymore. The 805 turned out to be the same. I would
assume the same is true for the 830/831.

  3. I have a pair. I like them. First they are much less ugly. Second they seem a little lighter. One
thing you may want to watch for is they seem slightly smaller. In my case that is not a problem, but
it might be for someone else. They feel great.

Ooh, that's a dangerous assumption, say I. ALL the manufacturers are too entropic with their
"updates." Sometimes you get la plus la change, sometimes you get le deluge.

    hi Nina,

you take lengthy breaks from the ng nowadays. sorry i can't give an answer to your question, BUT i
sure do sympathize with your dilemma. i used to swear by the NB 829's, and after going thru a couple
of pairs and getting totally hooked on them, the bloody company saw fit to stop with that model!
that made me mad, and i wasn't really pleased with moving to the next model up, so i switched brands
    (to ASICS Gel Cumulus
    - quite nice).

best of luck in your search for your favourite shoes, or at least something close.

hey, have a German beer for me! (ever try Jagermeister (liquor, not beer)? years ago, an old friend
brought back bottles of it from Germany to share.... wow, it was potent!).

    run, run, run,

hehe, that's the first thing i thought when i saw the pic 😉

lighter? that's almost unimaginable, but great. wow. hmm size is a tricky thing. i might have to
look out for a shop that actually carries these things... :P

thanks for the feedback - really good to hear! i'd hate to start looking around for another shoe now
as i really love the 830.

    cheers, nina

were the 829s the predecessors of the 830s?

thanks. i was so happy when i'd found the 830s. guess i shoulda bought more than 3 pairs :o)

less beer these days. 🙂 but sure, i'll have one. see - when i drink, i'm more likely to smoke, so
i'm going easy on the partying right now. 🙂

yeah... not really my thing. i brought back a slovakian 'equivalent', Becherovka, from my ski
    vacation. evil stuff, that too.

From time to time, NB830's come up on ebay. What size are you? I keep a close watch for my own size
(I wear 11D 830s) and if yours come up I'll let you know.

I checked a couple of sites I monitor for 830's, for women's sizes:

    Newbalancetoronto.com shows a few available - 5.5, 6, 9.5 to 11 in width
    B.

    newbalancewebexpress.com shows sizes 5, 6.5, 7, 10, 11, 12 in width B and most sizes in width D.

(I hate it when my favorite shoe gets gassed)

ooo, nice. wait... i'm a 9, width B. Newbalancetoronto.com doesn't ship outside of canada... apart
from that it seems a bit silly toorder shoes from the other end of the world (okay, I know, they
come from the other end of the world, anyway)

it'd be nice if you'd let me know if you come across a pair. then again, i guess i'll have to switch
sooner or later, so i will check out the 831s if i get a chance.

    cheers, nina

I haven't tried the 831's yet. I still have two pair of 830's on the shelf and two pair on the go
that won't be worn out for a couple of months yet. So it's going to be a while before I have to
switch again. Probably be 832s by then. (actually probably not - I'm cheap so I buy the outdated
    model at closeout prices)

ARGH! A 9.5, I woulda gotten for $9.50 🙂 but 8.5 is definitely too small. Wouldn't be fun. No. Wow,
looks like I gotta start actually using ebay.

We should all stock a lifetime supply of shoes once we find the Right Ones. Start buying extra
    storage rooms... 🙂

but the problem with that "solution" would be that as we age, our bodies change, including our
feet... arches drop, the foot flattens out a bit, posture changes, the knees go, we shrink into
little old people... and so then we need different features in a shoe.

if only it were that simple *sigh* 🙂
