Are you meant to ride in bike shorts sans underwear?
I just bought my first pair, (of bike shorts, not underwear )
on the recommendation that they help prevent chaffing etc and was
wondering.
If you just wear the shorts, do I assume that I am going to need a few
more pairs (of bike shorts, not underwear)?
I have been riding in those extremely comfy undies (under the bike
pants)that Pat flogs but it crossed my mind that maybe I should be
ditching them for the full benefit of the bike "nicks".

Yes. Underwear has seams that can chafe, and it inhibits the
removal of sweat.Quoted message said:

(in the shower, just soaping the chamois, is fine), and you shouldn't
heat them or put them in the sun to dry them quickly, more pairs allows
them more time to dry before you need them again. This is most
useful in winter - you could probably get away with a single pair in
summer.--
