yeah we'll see more of this...
I'm off to the track tonight for the Keirin and on the program is the mens 40k pts race ...
yesterday I was in a bike shop in SE Melb when a CG rider from OS with a good sun tan came in looking for track gloves ( white golf gloves do the trick you know- leather and cheaper)...anyway
he let it slip he was riding the 40k tonight , had never ridden track in his life before this week and had no idea about how to ride in a bunch either, or what the points malarky was about OR ( get this ) how to stop his track bike..( you hit something..doh!)...
and..he reckons he's one of many!!
so any country with a rider called "Eddy the Eagle" who puts his hand up or is press gang volunteered seems to be able to get a ride at the CG if their local country CGF enters them...
So maybe there will be some nasty unnecessay smashes once the track werjens get out there...sparks will fly, blood may flow, anger my reach fever pitch...!
Hopefully the top riders will be so far in front and too experienced to worry about the road bumps littering the track...hopefully!

I think that just highlights the disparity in resources btn countries. Sport and sporting events like the games work to gloss over the inequalities in resourcing and support for a lot of countries participating. And ulitmately, thats what the Comm Games are about - participation. It wasnt that long ago the Games were only for the rich white commonwealth countries.

I'm assuming by OS you mean over sea's. It be would interesting to know
what country he did come from as most Commonwealth countries are very poor
and I would highly doubt have access to cycling track facilities.
Anyway lets hope he does manage to stay upright.

Irrelevant, he won't make the final. The pace will be so fast in the first 10 laps of the heats that gumbies who aren;t up to it will be dropped instantaneously (the heats are at 10:30 and 11:30 this morning). No spectators will ever see him race, and no elite athletes are going to let him endanger their chances....

40.296 kph actually, from a standing start, for Mr Lal.
C grade club level time, not Commie games level time.
Yah. I told Kathy she would be a certainty for the CG team for Fiji 🙂
But the hell with it. If they are selected good on em. Still 20 kph ??

I guess anyone on two (or three, eek!) wheels without a motor and ripping it up is a good thing and there needs to be more of it..

sure I'm all for participation, and they get that opportunity in the TT events where they cant hurt anyone else but themselves ( or a commissaire)...it's like the Winter Olympics and the bob sleds/skeleton events...fine they can only take themselves out...and they get a run... but a massed event on a track is no picnic , elite or otherwise... IMHO it is folly having inexperienced riders no matter what country they come from mixing it in heats or if they do a "Badbury"... the finals...you can say all you like about feel good stuff and political correctness...it doesnt cut it here!
