  1. Hi Hua I couldn't find the study, but I did find a more recent study from this same author, Mendis
(2001, BJNMay;85(5):583-9 Coconut fat and serum lipoproteins)++That showed that the SFA:PUFA makes
both HDL and LDL worse, just like reviews of clinical trials predict.++The hegsted+keys equations
from the 1950s and the more recent 1997 review equations as well as many trials since 1997 based on
intense clinical trials provide uncontroversial evidence of the size and direction of the effect of
PUFA:SFA. Willett's data also shows reduced cardiovascular events, but his data is not mechanistic,
it is based on self-report of hundreds of thousands of people (diabetes yes or no) so mechanism not
known.++Read willett's recent jama review on good vs bad dietary fats for more info..++But there is
no paucity of SFA studies at all.
