I've never heard gadget called Fatboy and google doesn't turn up
anything for me YMMV.

Are you sure you're not getting confused with thin man, which was the
original proposed Pu239 gun type device. Subsequently abandoned when
the "mass production" of plutonium still had about 0.9% Pu240.
(I forget where they were produced but the original Pu samples were
almost pure Pu239)

I would have expected fat boy to be a uranium implosion device. I'm
pretty sure some devices of this type have been tested BICBW (and
certainly not tested before the end of WWII)

From the Los Alamos Newsletter 19 July 2004 (and they should know)

"1945 — Final preparations begin at the New
Mexico test site, the Jornada del Muerto at the
Alamagordo Bombing Range, for the first
atomic bomb test, code named Trinity. The
date is set for July 16. The experimental
atomic bomb “Fat Boy” was set off at 5:30
a.m. in the New Mexican desert, creating a
mushroom cloud rising 41,000 feet. The bomb
emitted heat three times the temperature of
the interior of the sun and wiped out all plant
and animal life within a mile."

It was the same design as Fat Man and the Trinity test was because there
were doubts whether Neddermeyer's implosion design would work whereas
the Uranium gun device was felt to be fairly certain bet(which is why it
was the first dropped and dropped without a live test beforehand).

Committee now announced, Martlew is *not* on it, but neither are any
of the known pro-cycling MPs - although Dr. Ladyman is at least well
informed and solidly behind the idea of cycling as good for public
