I was at a local bike store the other day and came across a new line of Cadillac bikes. I knew that GM was in trouble with their car lines but never knew that they now made bikes. The LBS told me that Cadillac had purchased Kent Bikes out of NJ and was branding the line using the Cadillac name.
The RLE-?? model looked like a really nice setup. Alum frame, carbon fork/seat post/seat stay, Shimano 105 setup, Shimano R550 wheels. The only drawback was an 18 speed setup versus the new 105 that is a 20 spd. All in all, looked like a lot of bike for an asking price of $1500.

Has anyone ever bought a Kent bike or a Cadillac version? Ever heard of them? I previously checked the Kent site and it looks like they are a mass retailer setup but these Cadillac bikes are a completely different animal. 3 models with the top one being a full carbon, $5000 setup. Hardly a mass market piece.

The bike is shown as 18 lbs, not that heavy. I didn't take an indepth look at it but the components caught my eye. Looks like a nice list for this price range.

There are plenty of generic (typically made in the same Taiwanese factories as the big name brands) aluminum/carbon framed bikes in that price range. In fact, most of them come with Ultegra instead of 105: http://www.ibexbikes.com/Stacks/Series_Aprisa.html

If you want the cheapest generic bike brands with good component packages, take a look at the bikesdirect.com line-up. The quality of that company's products and customer service have been debated on this forum with mixed reviews, but nobody seems to beats them on price for spec.
Well close. But it isn't really a Ferrari but a Colnago - same way they put some technology and then their name into some other stuff like cellfones and the Acer computer.
