psycho killers

Several years back, a yobbo tried to grab moi on the derriere. Unfortunately for him, I was going through a phase of wearing steel-capped boots. So when we passed a second time, and yobbo still had his arm dangling out of the passenger side, well, you can figure out what occured. Must of left a mark. Regardless though, the best reaction is to remain calm, in control and monitor the situation. 😉

Hmmmm Ray. Perhaps you should do a comparism. People killed by
handguns in victoria every year... about 15 of whome 2 or 3 were shot by
coppers

People killed by cars in victoria each year > 400 of whome 2 or 3 at
least were killed by coppers. How exactly does the handgun win?

I've been known to take a good hard look at the number plate and shout
"..got your number". Seems to make some of them think a bit.

Just as well bicycles are more manouverable than the average ute :-)

Of course my favourite incident like this was on the highway where they
thought it was just so hilarious to drive as close as possible to me,
shouting and the usual. But of course I caught them at the next town
where they were sitting at the lights. I just cruised up very slowly on
the drivers side until I got to the driver's window whereupon I said in
a quiet voice "..you know I don't think you should harass cyclists."
Scared the living [censored] out of him.

So, if Australia was average, then there'd only be
6e9/20e6*1731=500,000 deaths per year.

Also, as we are well aware, thanks to the TAC 46 campaign, there are
46 serious injuries per day in Victoria. Since deaths in victoria
scale to deaths in Australia as 433/1731=1/4, then there are ~184
serious injuries per day in Australia, or 67160 per year (Eeeek!).
Again, that averages out to 6e9/20e6*67160=20,148,000 injuries per
year for the entire world.

In my searching for figures, I did read somewhere that Australia has
some of the safest roads out there. This seems to back it up. And
the scary thing is, this implies there must be worse roads out there
than ours, and a lot of them. Eeek!

You're confusing road quality with road safety. Roads that force drivers to concentrate, just not too much, can be safer than roads that let drivers read the paper as they drive.

I think the car safety record is reasonably good amongst OECD
countries, the motorcycle safety record is one of the worst. No idea
about the cycle one.

can't find any bicycle comparisons.

Without even looking up any figures I'll say people were getting killed on
or by bicycles long before anyone was killed by a car. Particularly as the

being on the same road as a penny-farthing, didn't come into vogue untill
the early '90s (1890s that is).

Granted, but even then I bet there were people blithely driving their
horse-drawn vehicles out in front of the bikes. Yes, I know that horses are
smarter than that but they put blinkers on them, didn't they?

I nearly got hit today, walking across the road at lights. Green man was
flashing me, some guy on a mobile pulled through and nearly hit me. I
thumped his car as he passed to give him a shock. Perhaps next time I
should carry a stun gun.

Harley, denim cutoff, shorty mattblack helmet, beard, the lot.

Said bikie lanesplits up to the car, reaches in the open window, pulls
out the keys and throws them away.

Unfortunately the car turned left across my path. They were turning into
the Mall though, so I probably could have followed, if I wasn't in a
rush to meet my love for coffee...
