  1. i currently use campag 9spd a mix of chorus and daytona. I am
considering a new compact chainset. i don't want to go completely10spd
    at moment.

Can i use a 10speed chainset or am i going to have to stick to 9spd and
    get a mirage?? chainset?

    Hi,

No problems using a 10sp chainset with 9sp everything else.

I myself had 9sp Record running gear with 10sp chainset. I did get a
small amount of scrape, though, between chain and large chainring when
running 39-15 on a 14-22 cassette. This was due to the chainrings being
ca. 1 mm closer to each other on the 10sp chainset (compared with 9sp),
plus quite short chainstays on my frame. Not a big problem and it
disappeared once I upgraded everything to 10sp record (since the chain
is a little bit thinner on 10sp).

When it's time for you to go from 9sp to 10sp, the only things you need
to change are a couple of internals on the Ergo (search on this NG to
find out which, since it's been mentioned often here), the chain, and
the cassette. Rear derailleur is exactly same geometry/throw between 9sp
and 10sp. Just in case nobody's said that to you earlier ;-)

    /Robert

Use either in either system, doesn't matter.

The 'coffee shop racers' will snicker if your levers say
'nine' while your chainring says 'ten'. Other than that, no
    problem we've seen.

Campagnolo makes 2 arm qualities MIR-VEL-CEN and CHR-REC and
2 chainrings qualities MIR-VEL and CEN-CHR-REC. That makes
Centaur the best value with longer wearing top quality rings
    on a moderately priced arm.
