  1. I've bought some new mudguards for my Thorn, which has threaded holes
for screwing the front one straight onto the fork crown (and the rear
one straight onto the seatstay bridge). Using the old ones for a
template, I drilled the two extra holes required.

The mudguard comes with a riveted-on bracket for the brake bolt, so I
drilled off the rivet heads to remove it. Having done this, I have two
holes approximately 4mm in diameter where the rivets were. Any
suggestions for neat grommets to fill the holes?

    Pop rivets.

having done the reverse (used pop rivets to attach one of those stays
to a mudguard which for some reason didn't have one) I would say pop
rivets not a good idea as they will stick proud of the underside and
cause possible rubbing. Unless you put them in from inside then file
    off the pointed end.

Almost as good as my mother's 'cider for the slug traps' excuse.

  6. Old fashioned Bic Biro end caps glued in (and trimmed down lengthwise?
