I notice that Wayne's breaststroke site has this article on Gastrointestinal Esophageal Reflux
Disease, saying that swimming soon after eating can aggravate the condition. (I never eat before
swimming.)

I used to eat late in the evening, after theatre re- hearsals, tennis matches, cycling, etc. and
have had bad reflux attacks. But, I never have reflux when I'm swimming a lot. Arduous swimming also
helps me sleep very soundly at night.
I also know two young adults, children of my friends, that have been diagnosed with all sorts of
stomach ailments, e.g., Stress Ulcers, Acid Reflux, Barrett's Esophagus. The young woman is still
trying to find out what is wrong with her. The young man has suffered since his early teens. Now
in his 30s, he finally went to a good doctor in Pittsburgh who says that he has helicobacter
pylori. Apparently no one had tested for that before. I find that puzzling because, maybe ten
years ago, I read that science had finally determined h. pylori was the real cause of ulcers
(rather than stress).
