I took a break myself today from my normal steel-cut-oats regimen this
morning. I had leftover baked potatoes which I sliced and fried. Oh, the
skins were so crispy! (I don't eat skins normally, but they were
irrestible). Eggs (yes, runny for DH) and toast and Irish tea (TJ's bags).
Off to a wonderful day! Weather temperature will be dropping, dropping,
dropping with lots of wind.

Toasted olive oil bread spread with cream cheese and sliced hard
boiled egg on it with capers topped with another piece of toast. I
don't normally like hard boiled egg, but with enough vinegar and salt I
can eat them.

Second breakfast now:

Piece of toast spread with Nutella.

You need to get chickens. 🙂 You'll be boiling eggs and storing
them for lunches, salads, breakfast. Also, you can scramble and freeze
extra eggs to use in cooking later on.

With our family size, we usually buy at least three dozen eggs at a
time. Scrambled eggs for the family is about a dozen eggs, so it goes
fast. At Thanksgiving, we had our family, my mom, Rich's parents, his
brother, a couple we know, the kids' godparents and their son. We used
140 eggs in three days.

While I don't do grits or bacon, breakfast is my favorite meal. Today
DS and I had "yellow and white breakfast". I had leftover saffron rice
that I mixed 50:50 with some plain steamed rice, and then I cooked a
couple of basted eggs (steamed until medium-well doneness - yolk just
gelled) and mashed them up. Served with the rice, and a mini-fuit cup:
some orange slices, mango, peeled apple and banana. Everything was
some shade of yellow and white. 🙂

I don't think Glendale will allow me to keep chickens; or any livestock for
that matter. As it is, we have to register all of my housepets. Would
chickens destroy my garden?

They're usually okay around established plants, it's the seedlings
that are at risk. If you have them in a chicken yard, they can peck
about without eating your garden. Also, some areas will let you have
hens but not roosters, because of the noise. Portland city residents
can keep something like five hens and only a rooster with a special
permit.

We lived once close to a rooster. He crowed 24 hours a day. I was raised
on a farm and I don't recall one rooster doing that. I never heard more
than one crowing over one another. I can see why the rooster would have to
be permitted, especially.

24 hours a day? Even at night ? The neighbour three doors down from me had
bantam chickens and I heard the rooster(s) early in the morning and at all
other times of day. I wouldn't say that he crowed all the time, but as long as
it was light out we heard him (them) occasionally.

No one seems to know where they came from. There are roosters.
The poor people are being driven MAD with the 24 hour crowing.
I don't know why the roosters cannot be captured and taken to a
farm setting.

Sounds funny, but I do feel for them. I'd be finding those nests, the
solution might take some time but the flock can't live forever if they
don't procreate.

Maybe I could catch some of our local coyotes and send them to you. They seem to
take care of anything that isn't behind locked doors at night, including a
number of cats that called this place home at various times. My neighbours had

they went away overnight and left the turkeys free. They came back and found
they no longer had any turkeys.
