While you are at it, I need help buying a car. I can't afford a car, so please, just a
little for me to afford to buy a car. Let me know where I can pick up my check.

While I do not doubt that there are people genuinely in need of help, I have trouble
believing these types of requests on the internet.

We had a local lady that was caught after collecting money, and after others raised a lot
of money for her, to help her and her son who, she claimed - later found to be false - had
cancer. When he didn't miss school - high school, no less - people began to ask questions
which led to an investigation and, eventually, criminal charges.

She admitted to the crime, returned the money that could be traced to donors, donated the
money that couldn't be traced, and is on probation for a very long time. If I were her
son, I'd be ashamed to show my face anywhere locally.

Ya think anyone's clued her in to the fact that if she got rid of her
internet service, she'd have about $40 a month more to put towards her
"savings for the down payment on the house"?

At any rate, I think every single one of us knows someone in real

Reminds me of an unethical relative I have that over 30 years ago used to
answer the "kitty needs good home" ads in the newspaper and take them to the
pharmaceutical labs outside Philadelphia. He also introduced me to the
concept of the repo man, one of the visitors to his house.

Response: Just talked to some one I know that works in a legal
department and he said these type of posts asking for money are illegal
on internet and will check it out this coming Tuesday.

What could be illegal about asking for money? She isn't claiming to be something other

I agree, Nancy. My best friend/landlord had a fire in one of her rental
properties a couple weeks ago, and 2 apartments are uninhabitable until she
gets them repaired. Whoosh, there went $200/week income. But is she
posting [censored] like this on the 'Net? Nope. Is she asking people at her
church to give her money? Nope. (She is asking for prayers, however.)
Since the building wasn't insured (don't get me going on this one), the
repairs will be totally out of her own pocket. She's just gritting her
teeth and rearranging her finances so she can get the repairs done, that's
all.

Sadly, the other tenants - who were forced to spend 1 night elsewhere - all
descended on the Red Cross for their free handout. Except my boyfriend -
who actually lost property (his was one of the apartments that's
uninhabitable.) He just moved what could be salvaged over to my place and
is now living with me. One of the tenants, despite getting $300 from the
Red Cross, complained so much that Becky also gave her a week's free rent.
Now, in my opinion, since the tenant didn't lose any property, and since she
and her mother both spent the night at my house, so they didn't have to pay
to stay anywhere else, and the tenant didn't miss any days from work...I'm
not sure why she couldn't pay her rent that week.

There are some people you just want to smack. Hard.

Uh...end of rant. 😉

Everyone has dreams, doll. Pretty simple solutions to the financial
woes presented in this example of electronic panhandling, FAFSA, 80/20
mortgage. Don't know what they are, google it.
