I'm checking into restaurants in Jonesboro for our trip. It's a "dry county" which means unless it's a special club you can't even buy a drink or wine with dinner. Well, there's the 501 Club & Restaurant downtown. Used to be a members only club but they don't mention that online anymore. So I called to inquire as whether visitors from out of town might be able to go in and have dinner and drinks.
I dialed the wrong number. I didn't understand what the man who answered the phone said so I asked, "Is this the 501 Club?" He replied, "Well, no. But there's a buncha drunks who work here!" I cracked up. What a great comeback!

Sooo, what's the answer? Can you go to this joint and get all hooched up or not? I needs to know. <G>

Quite so... Ten outta ten for this guy. Wish I could think that fast - how many times have you thought - I shoulda said "this", or I shoulda said "that".

Yep! We can get a 1 year membership for $5 - doesn't matter how many is in the party. Then just sign the other folks in as guests. So yep, methinks we'll get a membership so we can have some hootch before and during dinner. The place is rated the best restaurant in town, as well you can imagine. <G>
For when we're in our hotel room, we're having to "import" the stuff (so to speak) unless we want to drive 20 miles to the county line. There's nothing out there but once you cross the line there's a big ol' liquor & wine shop!

That's similar to Ocean City, New Jersey. Dry. But cross the short bridge outta town and there's a "Super Liquor". They should post a sign for folks headed into OC, "Last Chance Alcohol" or something.

You, if anyone can liven the place up. Dial it up now! I wanna hear about it. Nothing funnier than my friend from High School. She was way jumpy and lived not too far from me. She always had a cig in one hand and a martini in another. Well, she wound up in Salt Lake City as a nucleur (sp) scientist. She was mortified but sexually satisfied. Apparently the dry state wasn't so dry. She finally moved to Marin County. She can lay on the beach there.

Not sure what you mean by that, Michael, but I'll take it as a compliment 🙂 We're going out for our 'Valentine's Dinner' on Thursday night and I figure this would be a good place to go. Yes, we can get a 1-year membership for $5. It's the only place in that town I can find that has special dispensation to serve alcohol. I'm trying to get my hands on a menu but I can't find one online and I don't have a fax machine.

Tell the date to spring for it. Go anyway. I got a gift cert for Petsmart. Gawd, talk about romantic 😉 I am really just kidding. Being a diabetic does not warrant too many chocolate gifts... I will eat them. And I'm not kidding. The gift cert was to help some of Ramsey's costs. I've got him on special food which makes him gain weight. It was a special gift from Steven's heart 😉

That's a very helpful and thoughtful gift! I'm not diabetic but a gift of chocolate wouldn't impress me very much. While I was out running errands earlier I had to laugh at all the men crammed in the card aisle scrambling for valentines. I went to peruse the paperbacks which happen to be on the same aisle as the candy and ran across two men clutching teddy bears, discussing various candies with all the seriousness of a couple of guys planning to buy a truck. I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Well, that was really thoughtful of him, though. My hubby was going to get me a present on his way home from work, but I told him I was getting a migraine and he brought me home aspirin instead - rushing in order to get it home to me quickly. That's present enough, in my book. :~)

Hubby was just trying to counteract having to hear that "I got a headache tonight" excuse. hehe I think he still owes you... of course *what* depends on how often you use that excuse... bad girls end up with a pocketful of coal... wait, I think bad girls end up with jewelry. <G>

I am posting from Google right now, so excuse this if it looks funny. I can't access rfc via Agent at the moment, for some reason...
